Hypoallergenic Earrings

Emma and Sarah excited about finding hypoallergenic earrings that actually work

Finally... earrings that don't hurt.

If you've ever pulled out a pair of earrings after an hour because your ears were red, itchy, or swollen — you're in the right place.

We make hypoallergenic earrings with plastic posts instead of metal, so there's literally nothing touching your ears that can cause a reaction. No nickel. No surgical steel that isn't quite surgical enough. No mystery metals.

Just comfy, lightweight plastic that lets you wear earrings all day without thinking about them.

Why plastic posts?

Most earrings labeled "hypoallergenic" are still made with metal — usually stainless steel, titanium, or gold-plated alloys. For a lot of people, that works fine. But if you're one of the roughly 10-15% of people with a nickel allergy (or a sensitivity to other metals), even "hypoallergenic" metals can cause problems. The itching, the redness, the crusty earlobes — you know the drill.

Plastic posts eliminate the problem entirely. Our posts are made from Wonderlite PC-110 polycarbonate — a medical-grade, completely metal-free material. There's no metal anywhere in the earring post or hook, which means there's nothing for your ears to react to. It's not a coating that wears off. It's not a "mostly hypoallergenic" alloy. It's plastic. Simple, effective, and comfortable.

What makes Earrings by Emma different

We're a family-run business based in Oklahoma. Emma (yes, she's a real person — she's my daughter!) started this whole thing because she wanted cute earrings that didn't make her ears hurt. Turns out a lot of other people wanted the same thing.

Every pair of our hypoallergenic earrings is assembled by hand in Oklahoma and inspected before it ships. We're not a dropshipping operation and we're not reselling generic earrings from overseas. We source our own materials, attach the plastic posts ourselves, and stand behind every pair with a two-year warranty.

And we're not just saying they work — our customers say it too. We have over 7,000 reviews from real customers, most of whom found us after years of not being able to wear earrings at all.

Styles for every occasion

Having sensitive ears shouldn't mean you're stuck with boring earrings. We carry hundreds of styles — from classic studs and elegant dangles for date night, to fun animal shapes and team colors for game day. Everything from tiny pearls to statement pieces.

Our most popular categories include classic and dressy styles for everyday wear, fun earrings that show off your personality, animal earrings that are always a conversation starter, and kids' earrings.

Studs vs. dangles — what to know

Studs have a slightly thicker post and come with two sets of backs (one small, one large — pick your preference or keep the spare for when one inevitably rolls under the dresser). If you haven't worn earrings in a while, stud posts might feel a tiny bit snug the first day or two. That's normal and goes away quickly.

Dangles use a curved plastic hook that hugs your ear — no backs needed, and nothing to lose.
The hooks are flexible, which means if your earring gets caught on a scarf or jacket, it's more likely to slide out than to tug hard on your ear.

Common questions about hypoallergenic earrings

Will these really not irritate my ears?
For the vast majority of people with metal sensitivities — yes. Because there's no metal in the post or hook, there's nothing to react to. We've served thousands of customers who couldn't wear any other earrings. That said, in very rare cases, people can have sensitivities to specific plastics or adhesives. If that happens, we have a straightforward return policy.

Are plastic posts durable?
They're made from polycarbonate — the same material used in bulletproof glass and safety goggles. They're strong, lightweight, and flexible. We back every pair with a two-year warranty, and we wouldn't do that if they fell apart.

Can I sleep in them?
A lot of our customers do. We don't officially recommend it because prolonged pressure can loosen the adhesive over time, but it's not going to hurt you or your ears.

Are these good for kids?
Not too young.
Our kids' collection is designed with older kids in mind — small parts like earring backs can pose a choking hazard for very young children, so we don't recommend our earrings for little ones. For older kids, the flexible hooks on our dangles are a nice feature: if an earring gets caught on something and pulled, the hook is more likely to slide out than hold firm. Browse our kids' collection for age-appropriate styles.

How is this different from titanium or surgical steel earrings?
Titanium and surgical steel are metals. They're better than cheap nickel alloys, but they can still cause reactions in people with severe sensitivities. Plastic posts contain zero metal — they're a completely different approach to the problem. If you've tried titanium earrings and they still bothered you, plastic posts are the next step.

What our customers say

"I haven't been able to wear earrings for more than a few hours in years. Now I can wear them all day with absolutely no irritation. I will definitely be purchasing more for myself and my daughters."

"This is the only place I will order earrings from. We had such horrible luck with earrings for my daughter's sensitive ears. These earrings are beautiful and cause no reaction. We will be lifetime customers!"
